La amenaza del terrorismo y la radicalización son desafíos que trascienden las fronteras internacionales, por sus consecuencias negativas para nuestra sociedad. España fue uno de los países europeos más afectados por los atentados terroristas. Ejemplo de ello fueron los firmados años de liderazgo de la banda terrorista ETA (1961-2010); el 11M (2005), que sacudió no solo a Madrid, sino a toda Europa; y los atentados de Barcelona y Cambrills (2017), todos los cuales dieron la voz de alarma sobre la necesidad (...) de detectar y prevenir la radicalización, ya que aparentemente se trataba de jóvenes integrados en la sociedad. El sufrimiento, el dolor y la muerte tangible del terrorismo hacen de la pedagogía de la muerte la mejor manera de abordar la educación del terrorismo desde un enfoque radical e inclusivo holístico, un estudio de la educación que la ve como antesala de una formación profunda por interiorización. Se basa en varios enfoques didácticos y formativos: (1) enfoque de acompañamiento educativo, desde el que se ofrecen respuestas eficaces a situaciones de duelo vivenciadas por algún miembro de la comunidad educativa; (2) un enfoque curricular centrado en promover la conciencia de la finitud en la educación y su tratamiento normalizado; (3) Un enfoque evolutivo fenomenológico entendido a partir de la teoría evolutiva desde la conciencia donde el nacimiento y la muerte no definen claramente el antes y el después. (4) Un enfoque meditativo vacío de la inexistencia. A partir de ahí, se hace referencia a la meditación para alcanzar la plena conciencia. Pues bien, en esta contribución científica se propone cómo trabajar con aplicar cada uno de estos enfoques en una Didáctica del Terrorismo que tenga un cuenta un enfoque radical e inclusivo. This open access book explores how the elements of Blumenbach’s epistemology have been variously assembled in different ways and in different historical-cultural and political-social contexts. It looks at the ways in which this epistemology has been enriched with new elements that have ensured its reproduction. The contributors revise approaches to the historical legacy of Enlightenment scholars such as Blumenbach in terms of nuances to our understanding of intellectual responsibility for the reproduction of race-informed thought, the legitimization of racial discrimination, and (...) the lack of critical response to both. "Blumenbach’s Racial Classification: Deconstructing the Timeless Call for Human Differentiation" transcends the simplistic boundaries between “right” and “left” science and revises the internally contradictory impact of racialist/racial thinking on knowledge about humanity. This book deepens our understanding of race as a contributor to various fields of the production of knowledge about humanity and different epistemic platforms. Instead of highlighting the pathos in revealing racism in the stances of the most authoritative thinkers, the editors and authors suggest contemplation of the persistence of epistemologies that promote racially informed views on humanity and their implications. The book attributes the responsibility for atrocities legitimized by “race science” to intellectual movements like Enlightenment, through more complex historicization, making it of great importance to philosophers, historians of science, and those specialised in racial studies and social sciences. Se realiza una revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo de analizar los diferentes códigos éticos y deontológicos internacionales, regionales y nacionales de los que se nutre la especialidad de psiquiatría. Se concluye que el comportamiento ético se basa en el sentido de la responsabilidad individual de cada psiquiatra hacia cada paciente y en la capacidad de ambos para determinar cuál es la conducta correcta y más apropiada. Las normas externas y las directrices, tales como los códigos de conducta profesional, las aportaciones (...) de la ética y de las normas legales, no garantizan por sí solas la práctica ética de la medicina, pero constituyen un importante marco referencial. A literature review was performed with the objective of analyzing the various international, regional and national ethical and deontological codes that the psychiatry specialty feeds on. It is concluded that ethical behavior is based on the sense of individual responsibility of each psychiatrist to each patient and the ability of both to determine what the correct and appropriate behavior is. External standards and guidelines, such as professional codes of conduct, the study of ethics and legal standards alone do not guarantee the ethical practice of medicine but are an important framework. The following chapter provides a critical analysis of the introduction and development of racial classifications in secondary schools of the Romanian Kingdom and the Hungarian region of Transylvania during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In doing so, it traces, on the one hand, the legacies of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach’s racial classifications within the broader scientific circles and its further ontological conceptualization as a theory of domination and assimilation of minoritized communities. The chapter further looks at how the development (...) of race science in Romania shifted from theorizing to racially measuring the local Romani and Sudanese ethnic communities. On the other hand, it analyzes the ways in which racial classifications were adopted within the teachings of natural history in secondary schools and how several methodological changes contributed to the legitimization of racial discrimination. The chapter argues that secondary schools, along with other state scientific institutions, are crucial spaces for transforming social realities, shaping in this way a nationalist, anthropocentric and racial hierarchical thinking, while legitimizing at the same time both the domination of minoritized groups and non-human species. The widespread circulation and alteration of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach’s racial theory across various contexts is a key reason for its differing evaluations. This chapter will explore Blumenbach’s practices of “collecting” and comparing skulls, focusing on the methodological changes in relation to concepts of “race” introduced by his successors, Samuel George Morton in the United States and Paul Broca in France. I argue that these changes and adaptations in different places contributed to the stability of Blumenbach’s classification. Relationality links “race” and (...) comparing, which is what makes their relationship so revealing. Practices of comparing ensured the stability of “race” through their continuous and flexible actualization in different contexts. The meaning and conceptualization of racial theories evolved through the intricate interaction of various practices, scientific principles, and emerging political and social developments. (shrink)

The ongoing evolution of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach’s approach to human variation for the last two centuries can be interpreted through an understanding of race in science as inherently connected with the vicissitudes of the legitimacy of colonial power. In this chapter, a Blumenbachian vision on human perfection is historicized as reproduced in the various stages of colonial power. The circulation of Blumenbach’s perspectives is connected to public and scientific debates regarding slavery and the post-slavery social order. The continuities and changes (...) in Blumenbach’s conceptualization of human perfection during post-slavery colonialism is elaborated through debates on racial intermixture as either a progressive or a dystopian scenario for humanity. The controversies between James Cowles Prichard and Josiah Nott, as well as between Arthur Gobineau and Anténor Firmin, are revised as regards the reproduction of different pathways of racialization. Exploring various methods for visualizing human variation complements the understanding of the longue durée of a Blumenbachian vision on human perfection as a significant diving force in the history of (de)legitimizing colonial power. The conclusion of the chapter problematizes the historicization of race in science and colonial power through the sociological biographies of scientists who have shaped our understanding of human diversity. In this introductory chapter, the recent and current historicization of Blumenbach’s legacy is discussed as the interplay between reductive contextualism and critical responses to it. Three interrelated contexts shape the historicization of Blumenbach as fluctuating between attempts to fix his legacy and to critically examine the driving forces behind the ongoing reproduction of the Blumenbachian approach: (1) race in science and the impact of science on producing both racist and anti-racist arguments; (2) the transfer between premodernity (the eighteenth-century or theological (...) approach to humanity) and modernity (the nineteenth-century or secular/scientific vision of science); and (3) the public or political engagement of scholars in (de)legitimizing particular politics against human dignity. Relying on Hans Blumenberg’s approach to exploring the complex nexus of pre-modernity—modernity and Sylvia Winter’s application of Blumenberg’s vision to the issue of whiteness, we develop a framework for the immanent critique of race in science. Following the longue durée of Blumenbach’s approach to human variation as numerous adaptations provides options for revising the entangled history of race in science. (shrink)

This chapter explores the conceptual genesis of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach’s Malay “race.” Introduced at the end of the eighteenth century, Blumenbach’s Malay variety stood out from his other human varieties by being named after a language rather than a place. To understand this taxonomic exceptionality, we trace the forms of argumentation he deployed to gradually include a fifth variety to an initial four-fold division and to name it after the Malay language. This investigation yields insight into Blumenbach’s conceptual, narrative, and (...) methodological dependence on (then) contemporary and earlier studies of human origins and kinship ties through studies of language. Finally, we analyze the epistemic and cultural legacy of his five-fold division of human species and his ranking of the Malay variety as being in transition between the “primordial” European and the “extreme” African variety. In order to identify the historical effects of Blumenbach’s race science on present-day, insular Southeast Asia, we rely on critical studies of “race” informed though affect theory in particular. We deploy Sara Ahmed’s concept of emotionality to understand how racialized qualifiers of transitoriness had been reconfigured as a colonial pedagogic strategy enabling the approximation of the Native American to the Filipino and the Malay. The final chapter discusses the challenges in historicizing scientific racism and the battle against it. The intellectual biographies of scholars who, like Blumenbach, were uncompromising fighters against the main political embodiment of racism in their time, bring about the question of the driving forces behind the mutually opposed political affiliations of scientists. The chapter brings forward a conceptualization racism and anti-racism in terms of immanent critique as a promising lens for addressing the task of historicizing race in science.

This chapter traces ideas of development interlaced with the Russian reception of nisus formativus in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and their response in the Soviet concepts of oligophrenia in the middle to end of the twentieth century. United by a focus on the transformations caused by damage and disease, as well as the capacity for language and abstraction, descriptions of monsters and studies of oligophrenia are positioned in a specific intellectual tradition of imagining deviation as a means of explaining (...) evolution. I begin by outlining the ideas and contexts influencing the adaptationAdaptation of nisus formativus that were significant for Russian and Soviet understandings of mental abnormality, then focus on the Soviet scientific framing of oligophrenia as a primarily biological phenomenon, supported by its grounding in terms of human evolution. This chapter examines Blumenbach’s writing on the varieties of the human race in the context of the Blumenbach-Kant debate around 1790 concerning the idea of the formative drive. This examination primarily involves demonstrating how the concept of “dégénération” is linked to a new understanding of natural history in terms of the historicisation of nature. The historicisation of nature is linked to a late eighteenth century subversion of the classical idea of the “chain of beings,” which dissolves, as it were, within (...) the framework of a temporal axis and thus becomes temporalised. The natural history of the Enlightenment is discussed with regard to Blumenbach as follows: (1) dégénération as a theory of migration and progress; (2) the naturalisation of “man” and the notion of the “ignoble savage”; (3) the notion of the formative drive and a new archaeology of the globe; (4) the formative drive and dégénération; (5) geographical history and the comparison of human faces and skulls; and (6) Varietas Americana. The central goal is the inclusion of Blumenbach’s natural history into the natural law tradition of the Enlightenment. (shrink)

Este trabajo presenta los resultados preliminares obtenidos en la conformación del Atlas Iberoamericano en Bioética que ha desarrollado el Centro Anáhuac de Desarrollo Estratégico en Bioética (CADEBI) respecto a la identificación y análisis de las instituciones de Bioética existentes en la Región. Se realizó una revisión documental a través de motores de búsqueda, bases de datos, redes sociales y otras fuentes. La información obtenida se agrupó en seis diferentes categorías de acuerdo con la estructura, objetivos y actividades que desarrollan. De (...) esta manera, se realizó un diagnóstico inicial con base en las fuentes documentales disponibles en la Web. Como parte de los resultados, se identificaron 157 instituciones en 25 países; así como la variación en la densidad institucional, concentrándose principalmente en España (29 instituciones), México (26 instituciones), Argentina (17 instituciones), Brasil (13 instituciones), Chile (11 instituciones) y Colombia (8 instituciones). Además, se resalta la importancia de las comisiones nacionales de bioética en el desarrollo institucional, señalando la relación entre el avance científico y tecnológico de los países y el desarrollo de la bioética. El texto concluye con la propuesta de crear un Observatorio de la Red Iberoamericana de Bioética para documentar y promover el intercambio institucional y científico en la Región, así como algunas recomendaciones derivadas del desarrollo de este trabajo. El conocimiento histórico –entendido como un proceso metacognitivo de asimilación constructiva sobre el pasado para explicar fenómenos– comporta un análisis del impacto y la transcendencia de determinados acontecimientos y procesos históricos, en cuya comprensión y valoración influye el concepto de relevancia histórica. Desde esta perspectiva es necesario implementar propuestas de evaluación sólidas, vinculadas al desarrollo competencial. El objetivo de este estudio es diseñar una guía de caracterización de los instrumentos evaluativos –actividades y ejercicios– más utilizados por el profesorado de Historia, (...) con el fin de optimizar los procesos de evaluación de esta competencia mediante una serie de descriptores estructurales, competenciales y transferenciales. Estos indicadores de pertinencia pueden marcar el camino de aquellos docentes que deseen perfeccionar su manera de evaluar lo históricamente determinante. El texto presenta una visión detallada sobre la importancia y operación del Observatorio de la Red Iberoamericana de Bioética (ORIBI), argumentando la relevancia de la bioética en la contemporaneidad. La bioética, definida como la ética aplicada a la vida, ha expandido su influencia más allá de la medicina para abarcar áreas como el medio ambiente, derechos humanos y lucha contra la pobreza, destacando el enfoque interdisciplinario esencial para abordar dilemas éticos complejos. El ORIBI, desarrollado por el Centro Anáhuac de Desarrollo (...) Estratégico en Bioética (CADEBI), busca consolidar algunos esfuerzos dispersos en Iberoamérica, fomentando la colaboración regional en investigación, formación y gestión de la bioética. Se destaca la necesidad de trabajo colaborativo entre observatorios existentes, aprovechando recursos y conocimientos para promover el bienestar social. El ORIBI planea su acción en torno al monitoreo continuo, análisis de actividades y red de vinculación, apoyándose en herramientas como el Atlas Iberoamericano de Bioética y una serie de indicadores de seguimiento. Este enfoque estratégico y flexible permite adaptar la operación del observatorio a desafíos emergentes. (shrink)

El artículo busca revelar como resultado el papel de la comunicación de la innovación social en el comportamiento del usuario, si este modifica su intención de consumir un producto o servicio, cuando conoce que la empresa que oferta el bien o servicio tiene una práctica de innovación social implementada. Para responder al objetivo se formularon dos hipótesis que fueron testeadas mediante la aplicación de una encuesta basada en una muestra de conveniencia, que recolectó 300 respuestas en toda América Latina. Los (...) resultados obtenidos permiten suponer que el consumidor en Latinoamérica, en general, no solo quiere tener más información disponible y accesible (tanto en términos de accesibilidad de medios como de lenguaje), sino que quiere involucrarse, ser escuchado y poder intervenir en la comunidad; ya sea por iniciativa propia o alentado por las marcas y empresas en general. En este artículo tratamos de hacer plausible la hipótesis de que las conectivas de diferentes lógicas no necesariamente difieren en significado. Utilizando el tratamiento categorista de las conectivas, argumentaremos contra la tesis quineana de que la diferencia de lógicas implica diferencia de significado entre sus conectivas, y ubicamos el cambio de tema en la diferencia de objetos más bien que en una tal diferencia de significado. Finalmente, intentamos mostrar que ese tratamiento categorista es una forma de minimalismo semántico, de acuerdo (...) con el cual no todos los elementos semánticos usuales son relevantes para determinar el significado de las conectivas. La solida formazione patristica di Farncesco Petrarca trova una felice testimonianza nel rapporto con l’opera di Gregorio Magno, in particolare I Dialogi. Nel II libro del De vita solitaria, con sottili riferimenti autobiografici, Petrarca esalta in Gregorio Magno il grande tema della solitudine come ricerca di libertà interiore e di riflessione, non certo come abbandono di un impegno di vita costantemente perseguito. Attraverso il saggio si snodano – ricercate nelle Epistolae e in opere petrarchesche come il De Otio religioso – (...) le espressioni dell’adesione, intensa e profonda, del primo intellettuale dell’età moderna a una tradizione religiosa che seppe coniugare con sapienza cultura classica ed etica cristiana. En el marco de la filosofía de las matemáticas contemporáneas, Hellman y Awodey sostienen un debate acerca del rol de la Teoría de Conjuntos de Zermelo-Fraenkel (ZF) y la Teoría de Categorías (TCat) en la perspectiva de una buena fundamentación estructuralista para las matemáticas. Según Hellman, ni ZF ni TCat constituyen un buen marco fundacional para las matemáticas; sin embargo, su punto central en este debate es que TCat no logra una autonomía, en sentido fuerte, respecto a ZF, y, además, (...) sostiene que la tesis de Awodey, favorable a TCat, es inevitablemente una tesis fundacionalista. Desde la otra orilla, Awodey sostiene que la noción categórica de estructura no es fundacional, pero sí constituye la mejor opción para interpretar las matemáticas de manera integral y articulada. De esta manera, pone en cuestión el ideal fundacionalista conjuntista. El objetivo del presente artículo es poner de relieve los aspectos filosóficos centrales de esta polémica, fijar algunas posiciones en relación con la misma y mostrar algunas consecuencias relevantes para la filosofía de las matemáticas. El sistema universitario español admite oportunidades de mejora en sus planes de estudios actuales, pues la incorporación de nuevas tecnologías, unidas a las innovaciones educativas, están impulsando la enseñanza superior hacia cambios significativos. La presente propuesta pretende dar cuenta del estudio de un caso donde se implementa un modelo experiencial basado en proyectos centrado en la asignatura: Producción de programas informativos en televisión. En consecuencia, tras la evaluación de esta propuesta formativa donde han participado más de doscientos cincuenta alumnos se (...) ha determinado que podría resultar una alternativa válida y trascendente para aplicarse en futuros cursos académicos. Tomasello et al. propose that shared intentionality is a uniquely human ability. In light of this, we discuss several cultural behaviors that seem to result from a motivation to share experiences with others, suggest evidence for coordination and collaboration among chimpanzees, and cite recent findings that counter the argument that the predominance of emulation in chimpanzees reflects a deficit in intention reading.

Presentamos una serie de reflexiones sobre los compromisos del o de la terapeuta en las situaciones sociales generadas en el encuadre específico de los Grupos de Intervención sobre los Estados de Conciencia (GIEC). En el desarrollo de los GIEC se crea una cultura que actuará como herramienta terapéutica, y a la que la persona que ejerce como terapeuta debe estar atenta para que no se convierta en cultura enraizada que lleve a sus miembros a convertirse en lo que deben ser. (...) Lo importante es que dicha cultura mantenga una apertura a la posibilidad de explorar lugares disociados, tanto a nivel personal como social. En consecuencia, tal terapeuta se compromete con una manera concreta de entender las relaciones sociales desde la diversidad, apoyada por su conducta colaborativa y de apertura hacia la libertad propia y de quienes le rodean. Ese compromiso es posible interpretarlo como una posición ideológica básica que permitirá el desarrollo adecuado de los grupos. Sin embargo, nos preguntamos si sería posible interpretarla también como una postura ética. Para ello, nos basamos en el planteamiento de Emmanuel Levinas sobre la otredad, y desarrollamos sus implicaciones, beneficios y riesgos dentro del proceso de la terapia grupal. (shrink)
